New Professional Learning Activities to support Gaelic Education in Scotland

Education Scotland are delighted to announce two new self-directed Professional Learning Activities to support Gaelic Education in Scotland. You can complete these activities at your own pace and at a time that suits you.

Learn Gaelic for Teachers – A1 SpeakGaelic

This Professional Learning Activity links to the SpeakGaelic A1 course. This course provides the basics of the Gaelic language to support practitioners in Scotland to develop their Gaelic language skills in a structured and formal way.

Leading Gaelic Education in Scotland

This Professional Learning Activity aims to support practitioners with leading and delivering Gaelic education in their setting.

Learning outcomes

  • develop an increased awareness and understanding of Gaelic language and culture and Gaelic Education in Scotland in the past and present
  • increase your understanding and awareness of the different components of Gaelic education that exist and the concept of immersion education in regard to Gaelic Medium Education
  • reflect on current practice in your organisation in light of legislation and policy around Gaelic Education
  • consider ways rights-based practice can be embedded across settings that deliver Gaelic Education
