Staff and current students from the University of Strathclyde invite your learners to join them for this year’s Accelerate Languages and International Communication challenge! Accelerate is a one-week, widening access programme taking place 8-12 June for learners about to start S5 or S6 who are thinking about university. It aims to provide a targeted focus on the learners' chosen area of academic interest, giving them a head start on the road to their chosen career.

Combining Languages with the subject area of Journalism Media & Communication or Politics & International Relations or Hospitality & Tourism Management, participants will get a glimpse of the international communication and language skills that go into producing communications resources for major events, be they sporting events, music events, festivals, or conferences. Supported by staff and students from the University of Strathclyde, this challenge will open their eyes to the fascinating and diverse range of studies that they can combine with a language at university!

The Languages and International Communication challenge has official accreditation on the SCQF Framework. This means that, on successful completion of the assigned tasks, participants will be awarded 10 credits at SCQF 7 by the University of Strathclyde. The classes in French and Spanish are a core part of the course and participants will be expected to attend both. However, these languages will be offered at a level suitable for beginners, and also at a level appropriate for those who have already undertaken Nat 5/Higher.

All places on this non-residential programme are fully funded and allocated to young people based on six widening access criteria. Further information can be found on the Accelerate webpage. Please email accelerate-programme@strath.ac.uk if you would like to view the recorded teacher or parent/carer information sessions, which took place on 4 March.

Please note that applications for a funded place on the 2026 Accelerate programme opened on 23 February and will close on 20 March.
