Description

There is currently little information about the range of community languages spoken in Scotland, or the numbers of people who speak them. Under the auspices of the SCOTLANG project, Scottish CILT surveyed students at the start of S1 (or equivalent) at school in Edinburgh, to investigate appropriate ways of collecting this information. The survey found that 59 languages were spoken by these Edinburgh schoolchildren, and that 14% spoke two or more languages.
