Event Date: 29/06/2015 - 03/07/2015

It’s official, school’s IN for summer!

SCILT and Education Scotland are now able to offer two places to each local authority on our 1+2 Train the Trainer Summer School. The week long course will take place at the University of Strathclyde from Monday 29th June to Friday 3rd July 2015. This course has Professional Recognition in Leadership from the GTCS pending. According to previous TTT participants the course is ‘informative’, ‘practical’ and ‘all excellent’.

The course is aimed at key people in local authorities who will be responsible for training others to take forward Primary Language Learning (PLL). Participants will have qualification in a language other than English of at least SCQF 6 (Higher or equivalent).

The course will include:

Plenty of discussion around supporting authority 1+2 strategy and the development of professional learning programmes. This will be in English.
Pedagogy sessions featuring exemplification of primary language learning practice. These will be very collaborative - involving the participants as much as the presenters. As such, we expect contributions in all the languages represented in the room. All ideas, strategies and pedagogies will be completely transferable.

By the end of the course, trainers will be able to identify:

  • the format of their own primary language course
  • the content of their own PLL course in terms of grammar, cultural content and progression in the 4 significant skill areas of listening, talking, reading and writing
  • how they will develop teachers’ language and pedagogical skills
  • effective use of ICT in teaching and to reinforce and refresh teachers’ own language skills
  • how to use, adapt and create resources to suit local circumstances

Bed and breakfast accommodation will be provided free of charge to participants coming from beyond a 50 mile radius of the university.

Please note registration must be done via the appropriate local authority QIO.  If you are a teacher interested in attending, please contact your QIO who must then register places by contacting Emma McLean, e.mclean@strath.ac.uk. stating the names of the participants and their contact details, the LA that they will represent, the language(s) they are qualified in and whether they will require accommodation before Monday 1st June.
