On 6th, 7th and 8th March 2013 at 7pm students from the Hispanic Studies will be performing the play 'El Florido Pensil'. The novel by Andrés Sopeña Montalbe has been adapted for the stage by the Basque group Tanttaka. It’s set in the Basque Country in 1950s.

Franco is at the peak of his power. His ideology is soaking up every aspect of Spanish life. Languages, apart from Castilian, are forbidden and the education system is strongly influenced by Franco’s politics.

The play is mainly set in a classroom and portrays this era through the eyes of five children. It deals with the difficulties this group have as they face the absurd and partly illogical education system.

Tickets are £6/£5 and available on the door or in advance at spanishplay2013@gmail.com
