Au revoir!

Bonjour pour la dernière fois!

Last week was my final week as a language assistant here in Tarnos and I will be flying back to Scotland in only two weeks which feels very bizarre! The children and teachers threw me a goodbye meal which was very ‘gourmand’ and it was very bittersweet to say ‘adieu.’  It is going to feel very strange hearing English all around me when I land back in Scotland and I will be sad to say goodbye to such an amazing place and such fantastic people.  Everyone I have met here has been so friendly and welcoming (and often very forgiving of my mistakes).  Having this opportunity has taught me so so much, not just about the French language and culture but also about myself, others, and just about life in general.  I feel so happy and proud to have made some lifelong friends and memories here.  The most crucial lesson I have learned this year is: Il faut se lancer! You have to go for it, get started, make the move even if it’s scary and you’re not sure if you can do it, in fact especially if you feel that way!  You do not have to be fluent to get by in France, in fact the more you have left to learn, the more fun you’ll have in front of you!  I have learned to say ‘oui’ to new experiences, new places and friends.  I hope that through our correspondence I have managed to show you the many and diverse opportunities that learning a foreign language can present.

I still have a couple of weeks left here in France so I have a few more adventures (cough...surfing...cough...snails...cough) lined up to tell you all about in a few weeks when I come and see you.  In the meantime here are my top 5 photographs from this incredible year abroad.  Vive la France!

See you very soon!

Louise
