Professor Paul Bishop will discuss some of the issues surrounding the uptake of modern languages at school and university, as well as the relation of languages in the attempts to rebalance the economy of the UK (and of Scotland). Professor Bishop will also discuss the role of languages in the context of the economic challenges facing the UK and Scotland as a consequence of Brexit.
