Home Sweet Home.

Bonjour, Guten Tag, Hello,

This is my last blog post! I'm not sure how it's possible because it feels as if I only flew to Brussels yesterday.

I've posted some photos from my very interesting, and cold, trip to Berlin. Unfortunately, it was almost too cold to really enjoy our trip but we saw many of the historic attractions of the city: the East Side Gallery, Checkpoint Charlie (where you could cross into the American sector of the city of Berlin) and also No Man's Land. I would definitely recommend Berlin but in the summer!

I had a very exciting last few weeks in Germany, which included travelling 1500 miles in only 12 days! I travelled by train, with a friend, from München to Salzburg to Wien, into Slovakia towards Hungary. From Budapest, we travelled to the capital of Slovenia - does anyone know the capital of Slovenia? From there, we headed to Venice and then on to Florence (where I met some friends that I made in Brussels - Erasmus never ends!) before heading back up to Munich. It was a fabulous trip!

Whilst in Munich, I was able to do some research for the pupils at Milne's. Munich is the capital city of the Bundesland Bayern (Bavaria). Bavaria is the birthplace of most of the things that you might associate with Germany: Bier, Lederhosen, Dirndls, Brezen, Wurst... The place where you can find all of these things in the same room is, of course, Oktoberfest. Of course, I wasn't in Germany in October but I was there in May. In May, we celebrate Frühlingsfest, which I was lucky enough to attend. I even wore traditional dress! It was a fabulous experience!

Now that I'm home, I feel like I am different from the way I was before I went on my year abroad. I am more confident in myself and I have a completely different appreciation of different cultures. I have learned so much and have, perhaps most importantly, improved my ability to speak in French and German. My year abroad has been the best of year of my life. I look forward to coming and visiting you all to tell you all about it in person but I hope that my posts here have inspired you to pursue languages further than school!

Until September,

Sophie
